| What is a Cookie? |
|
A Cookie is a small piece of information that is sent to your web-browser.
This information is then stored by your web-browser and can be retrieve by
the site that set the information throughout any pages on that website.
|
|
BarterFriends uses cookies to store your username. This makes it possible for
the website to know who you are when you do things like post an item to the
auction, or place a bid. If there is no cookie stored in your web-browser, then
you will need to type in your username/password to do such things. This can
become a great inconvenience, as you will need to type in your username/password
to do almost anything on the website.
|
When you use the "LOGIN" button at the top of the page, and type
in your username/password, you are issued the cookie. You can remove this
cookie from your web-browser (so that it forgets who you are) by following
the "LOGOUT" button that will replace the login button if you are logged
in.
|
| Is my web-browser storing the cookie? |
Every web-browser has an option to disable cookies. If the browser has cookies
disabled, it will not accept the cookie that we send to it, even if the website tells
you that you are now logged in. You can test this by logging in. Once you're logged in,
go to the Barter, and follow the Post Item link. If you're told that you must
be logged in to post an item, it's likely that your web-browser has its cookies disabled.

| How do I enable cookies in my web-browser? |

If you don't want to download one of these browsers
and need to change your browser settings, you can click on
your browsers Help menu and search for "cookies"
or look for a preferences or options menu that contains
your cookie settings.
